Concert Series Details

Antero Winds

Known for their artistic  sensitivity and exuberant stage presence, the award-winning Antero Winds have been attracting attention worldwide as a talented woodwind quintet.  Previously Arundo Winds, the graduate woodwind quintet in residence at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has traveled the world to perform, compete and educate.  In 2008, they were the only U.S.-based semi-finalists at the International Chamber Music Competition in Lyon, Frnace.  For this concert, they bring some added excitement in the form of Scott Turpen, Professor of Saxophone at the University of Wyoming, in a performance of Milhaud's Scaramouche.

Evan Shinners

Born in Denver, Evan Shinners (23) began playing piano at age nine and made his orchestral debut with the Utah Symphony at age 12.  He has played with the Madelene Chamber Ensemble and performed at Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as well as other notable venues.  He recently completed a tour of Taipei where he performed concerts at the Children's Charity Association.  Evan is currently completing a masters degree at The Juilliard School, studying with Jerome Lowenthal.  An avid conductor and published poet, he is host of an online radio show entitled This is E.S. and performs frequently in his rock goup named evanshinners.

Boulder Piano Quartet

The Boulder Piano Quartet was formed in 2003 as a collaboration between members of the Colorado Symphony and the faculty of the University of Colorado College of Music.  Its members have performed with highly esteemed artists and composers across North America, Europe, and Asia.  The BPQ has performed at many of Colorado's notable concert series.  In 2005 the BPQ was appointed Ensemble-in-Residence at the Boulder Public Library where it holds outreach programs, open rehearsals, and several concerts each year.  Recently, the BPQ recorded piano quintets of Lowell Liebermann with other artists, released on Koch International Classics in August 2008.

American Horn Quartet

Established in 1982 by four Americans who perform in well-known European orchestras, the American Horn Quartet enjoys an ever-increasing popularity in the brass chamber music world. The group offers an intriguing repertoire of traditional works for French horn, as well as imaginative arrangements of diverse works and prize-winning original compositions by members of the Quartet itself.  The ensemble continues to record concerts for live radio and television broadcasts and has produced nine CDs which have received rave reviews.  The American Record Guide recently described the AHQ as "the finest brass chamber ensemble in the world."

Ashley Buckley and B.J. Miller

Violin and piano join for a night of inspiring classical music in Grand County.  Ashley Buckley and Billie Jo (B.J.) Miller are both residents of Pittsburgh, PA, where they teach young musicians and perform at a variety of venues.  Ashley, violinist, plays for the Pittsburgh Opera Theatre, the Westmoreland and Canton Symphony Orchestras, and the Erie Philharmonic.  In addition to performing, Ashley has traveled to such places as Ghana and Turkey to perform and work with children.  B.J., pianist, is a staff accompanist at the Carnegie Mellon University and maintains a piano studio of her own.  She performs extensively in Pittsburgh, both with rising young artists and with members of the Pittsburgh Symphony.  These young women will put their talents and their instruments together for a memorable evening of melodies.

Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado

The Four Seasons!  The Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado brings its own fiery interpretation to a perennial Baroque favorite, with concertmaster Cynthia Freivogel as violin soloist for Vivaldi's colorful depiction of the four seasons.  The program also includes Telemann's Sinfonia Spirituso and Capriccio Stravaganze by Farina.  Now in its fifth season, the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado is a period-instrument ensemble, bringing to Colorado audiences the musical riches and spirit of improvisation of the 17th and 18th centuries.

The Denver Post:  "...captivating, intimate music making..."
